Charity & The PGA Tour

Each week at a PGA Tour Event there is a charity (or multiple charities) that will benefit from the golf tournament.

In 2014 the PGA TOUR and it’s 100+ tournaments surpassed $2 Billion in charitable donations. In 2015 PGA TOUR tournaments set a single year record by raising $160 million for charity.

This week’s beneficiary was Shriners Hospitals for Children, also happens to be the title sponsor which makes promotional initiatives all the more important. Already this week we have seen young Tommy Morrissey interacting with our players during the Wednesday Pro-Am, along with hitting the ceremonial first tee shot on Thursday morning. Both events provided some wonderful moments along with some memories which will last a lifetime.

One such crucial initiative that occured this weekend was the involvement of 22 Shriners patients that served as Standard Bearers for Rounds 3 and 4. For the first time, all 22 Shriners Hospitals (20 from the USA, 1 from Canada, and 1 from Mexico) had a representative here at the golf tournament.

I sincerely hope that they get as much coverage and airtime as they deserve and that they get as much joy and pleasure out of their experience as we will by watching them.
